About Tapt Kund & Narad Kund

Just before entering the sacred Badrinath Temple, devotees first visit Tapt Kund and Narad Kund — two divine hot-water pools on the banks of the holy Alaknanda River. Both hold deep spiritual importance in Sanatan Dharma and are strongly connected with Lord Vishnu and Goddess Ganga.

Tapt Kund is believed to be the sacred bath of Lord Vishnu. Despite the freezing Himalayan climate, its water remains naturally hot throughout the year. Pilgrims take a holy dip here before darshan, as this ritual is said to purify the soul, remove sins, and grant divine blessings. The water is also believed to have miraculous healing properties.

Narad Kund, situated next to Tapt Kund, is named after Maharishi Narad, who is believed to have meditated here. It is the sacred spot from where Adi Shankaracharya discovered the idol of Shri Badri Vishal submerged in the river. Devotees believe that praying at Narad Kund grants knowledge, devotion, and spiritual wisdom.
