About Yamunotri Temple

Yamunotri Temple is the sacred seat of Maa Yamuna, the goddess of life, purity and compassion. Located at an altitude of about 3,293 meters in the Garhwal Himalayas, it marks the true origin of the holy River Yamuna, one of the most revered rivers in Hindu dharma.

According to ancient beliefs, taking blessings from Maa Yamuna frees devotees from suffering and grants a long, healthy, and blessed life. The natural hot water spring Surya Kund, located near the temple, is believed to have divine healing properties — where rice prasad is offered to the goddess in a sacred ritual.

The temple stands in a serene valley filled with dense forests, waterfalls, and snow-clad peaks — creating an atmosphere filled with divinity and peace. Yamunotri Temple is the first dham of the Char Dham Yatra, symbolizing the beginning of a spiritually cleansing journey for every devotee.
